Deadly Ink 2018

New Jersey’s biggest little mystery conference, Deadly Ink, convened this year at the Marriott Renaissance in Woodbridge, New Jersey, from August 10-12. A good time was had by all. Watch this space for next year’s plans. Here’s what you missed this year:

Academy workshops:

Jenny Milchman, Writer

Friday, 9-12, Jenny Milchman on character.

Art Taylor, Writer

Friday, 1-4, Art Taylor on plotting.

MegGardiner2The Guest of Honor this year was Meg Gardiner, thriller writer extraordinaire, whose work has been praised by the likes of Steven King and whose book, UNSUB, is even now being turned into a series on CBS.

Her latest book, INTO THE BLACK NOWHERE, is available wherever good thrillers are sold. You will, of course, want to come to the conference and get her to sign your copy.

BookPhotoThe Toastmaster was our own Roberta Rogow, author of four mystery novels in which the Rev. Mr. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (better known as Lewis Carroll) and young Dr. Arthur Conan Doyle collaborate as detectives, and two more set in post-Civil War New York City.

Her latest is MALICE IN MANATAS (Zumaya Publications, 2017), set in an Alternate Universe which she describes as “Last of the Mohicans meets Arabian Nights, with a Spanish accent.”

Roberta retired in 2008 from a 37-year career as a Children’s Librarian, leaving her free for writing, Sci-Fi costuming, and filking.

Volunteer! There are many little jobs to be done to help the conference run smoothly, and it’s a great way to make new friends.
